Question Time Event
13 April 2010 (18:00-20:00) - Park South Community Centre

Anne Snelgrove (Labour), Robert Buckland (Conservative), Damon Hooton (Lib Dem) and Jenni Miles (Green) will all be on the panel. The event will take the format of a 10 minute introduction and policy outline from the candidates, followed by an hour's question time from the audience.The audience will be made up of PCS (The Public and Commercial Services Union) members and the general public.

Fair Is Worth Fighting For

The Green Party’s theme for this general election is fairness. We have seen tax–payer’s money being used to prop up banker’s bonuses instead of where it should be - on creating a truly fair and sustainable society.

Our top 3 priorities for this election are:

• Creating jobs. Real jobs in the real economy. We will invest in job creation for normal people like engineers, plumbers, fitters, bus drivers, train conductors, midwives, dentists and carers through schemes like free care for the elderly and energy efficiency programmes for schools, hospitals, government offices and homes. We will provide young people with jobs that last and have a future – not leave them hanging on the dole.
  
  
• Resisting cuts in public spending. These would harm the economy risking a double dip recession and destroying jobs both directly and indirectly. You can’t cut your way out of a recession – and cuts in public services will impact most heavily on the poorer people who most rely on them.
  
  
• Protecting the NHS against wasteful and expensive privatisation. We will improve services – not least maternity and dentistry services. This will provide real jobs and protect the poorest in society. We will restore the NHS to its core value – free at the point of need – by abolishing prescription charges which are little more then a tax on the sick which hits the poorest the hardest. We will provide everybody who wants one an NHS dentist ending the current postcode lottery.

Our plans are costed and sensible. We, like Brunel, will not do things the cheap way, the quick way, the easy way. We will do it the right way. The way that will stand the test of time and provide our children and grand–children with a lasting legacy of a strong economy and great public services.
